RAF / RCAF 1932 PATTERN ‘MAE WEST’ LIFE JACKET, SIZE LARGE
SOLD
For sale is a rare example of the RAF/RCAF 1932 Pattern ‘Mae West’ life jacket. RCAF stores ref: 22C/22; RAF stores ref 22C/240 (outer only). Size Large.
Manufactured by the Dominion Rubber Company Limited, this Canadian version of the 1932 Pattern Mae West is in excellent condition. The rubberised cotton stole container is devoid of any issues and still has clear user instructions. To the rear of the neck there is a DOT branded zip, and a name, perhaps complemented by a date, though this is unclear. The waistcoat has artwork, perhaps added wartime, though the vest could well have been used in the Post-War years. Internally the rubberisation has held up well, and is not shedding dust like a lot of these examples do.
The waistcoat itself is also in great condition. The middle button looks to be a period replacement. Complete with original tie tapes that are also in excellent condition. The vest has not had any leg tapes added, or any other extra features that you see on some examples. It is completed for display with a set of reproduction 41 pattern kapok pads, and a mock-inflation hose.
This Mae West represents excellent value compared to the Air Ministry made counterpart, and is a great investment piece for a Battle of Britain display. Rare to find now.
