RAF MARK IVB FLYING GOGGLES + FLIPSHIELD

RAF MARK IVB FLYING GOGGLES + FLIPSHIELD

SOLD

For sale are a lovely, scarce pair of RAF Mark IVB Flying Goggles, complete with the very rare "screen, antiglare" with the enclosed 'peg-type' bayonet mechanism. 22C/167.

The goggles are in very nice condition, with almost all of the original paintwork to the frames (these are finished in the more obscure satin-brown finish). Unusually the rear rubber pads are still in relativley sound condition, with some perishing; most are usually destroyed .

The goggles are complete with their original flipshield (22C/133), with this variation being the iteration more often seen in photos from the Battle of Britain. The screen is in excellent condition, with one tiny crack underneath one of the retaining screws which does not affect the way they display. The mechanism still operates perfectly. There is some delamination to the goggle's lenses (all original). The strap and sprung loops are all lovely, with the springs still flexible, and the strap itself nicely marked with crisp stampings.

Overall a lovely pair of these scarce Battle of Britain flying goggles.
