RAF DUAL PURPOSE COMBINED PATTERN HARNESSUIT, NOS
SOLD
For sale is a NOS, Combined Pattern 'Dual Purpose' Harnessuit, dated August 1940. Size Small.
Manufactured by GQ Parachute Co, the 'Dual Purpose' harnessuit was intended to provide provision for both clip-on seat or chest type parachute packs, along with a stole container to accept a special rubberised stole, in lieu of the need to wear a separate life preserver (Mae West).
This particular harnessuit is in exceptional unused, NOS condition. The suit is made from a heavy olive drab cotton and has a twin zip front opening, and zipped exterior pockets. All zips run perfectly, and still have their leather pullers. The suit is also complete with the rare stole container, sadly so often missing.
Sadly the suit was decommisioned post-war, evidenced by the removal of the metal fittings to clip the chest and seat type harness hooks in place. This is not obvious when displayed, but I have had to reflect this in the price.
The suit has a superb label, with Battle of Britain dates, and the chain hanger is still in place.
Overall a lovely suit, which would be double the price if the harness fittings were present.
