RAF C TYPE FLYING HELMET - EARLY PATTERN, EXTERNALLY WIRED
SOLD
For sale is a rare, early pattern C Type Flying Helmet. 22C/450.
This particular helmet is a lovely example of an early, externally wired C Type Flying helmet; this being the second iteration with the 'improved' goggle straps (all facing down), and the additional male press-studs for fitting the E* Oxygen Mask.
The helmet is in good /very good condition. Externally the leather is thick and juicy, retaining all of its straps and press studs, all of which operate smoothly and retain the majority of their painted coatings. The rubber receiver holders are slightly mishapen, but still very flexible and can easily be fitted with receivers to bring them back to shape. The Bennett's buckle still retains its leather covering and is in very good condition.
Internally the helmet is a little soiled, showing clear service use. The inner ear cushions are nicely shaped, but show a few areas where the chamois has torn.
The helmet is a small size, probably a 1 or a 2, but does fit a small display head as the photos.
All in all this is a rare, early pattern C Type Flying Helmet.
